A Huge Thank you for raising over £12,000

Rugby Christmas Cracker has been running since 1991 and has so far raised over £150,000 for projects in the developing world.

The Cause

This year the money raised will help fund a health project and school in the slums of Bangalore and also help fund the Jacob’s Well tailoring unit which gives disadvantaged young women the opportunity to learn a trade and earn a living. You will be pleased to know that the generator which we raised money for last year is well on the way to being installed.

The Participants

A total of 128 people took part this year in Cracker FM and the Crackerteria: 112 of these were young people and 16 were adults.

The Shop

This year was the shortest turn around time for doing the shop up in preparation for the Crackerteria. We obtained the keys at 12:00 on Friday 27th of November and opened for customers at 12:00 the next day. The decorations were put up, the cookers were wired in, the sinks installed, and the tables, chairs and all the kitchen equipment were positioned. The electricity had to be turned off halfway through the afternoon for essential maintenance but congratulations and thank you for everyone who helped.

The Crackerteria

The Crackerteria raised £2,909.96 in the time it was open. There were 70 people who volunteered doing serving, cooking, waiting and washing up. 15 of these were adults and 55 were young people! Others helped make soup, cakes and washed the tea towels and aprons.

Cracker A La Carte

During December we cooked 294 evening a la carte meals, raising £4,220.03.

Cracker FM

78 Young people took part in the radio, presenting shows and helping with training and technical support, producing jingles and entertaining Rugby from the 27th of November to the 24th of December. The studio and transmission equipment was installed in record time - the keys being obtained at 12:00 and the radio started broadcasting at 4:00 the same afternoon. Well done the technical team, you did an amazing job! If you are interested in preparing jingles, cracker slots or learning other technical jobs we are holding monthly meetings so get in touch with Katie to find out more. Congratulations to Michael Durkin who raised £320 through a sponsored bike ride, Oliver Hawkins £280 and Ron Sangal £250.90 sponsorship, and for many others who also raised a lot of money.
